DEAR PEOPLE AND PLANET,

GSFK 2024 DECLARATION: SHAPING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR ALL

From January 15 to February 15, 2024, the Global Science Festival Kerala (GSFK) will take place in Thiruvananthapuram, starting a movement for the planet and everyone on it. GSFK brings together governments, businesses, and regular people, making sure everyone has a say in decisions about our future. Over 10,000 change-makers and more than 10 million online viewers are expected to be part of this big event.

GSFK HAS IDENTIFIED SEVEN URGENT PRIORITIES

1. Climate & Biodiversity:

How do we collectively manage climate change and protect biodiversity?

GSFK commits to channeling collective abilities for policy crafting and behavior influence. Prioritizing biodiversity conservation and regeneration, GSFK aims to reverse environmental damage, emphasizing the responsibility to advance climate action for the benefit of future generations.

2. Space:

How do we safely explore new frontiers?

GSFK envisions nations collaborating in space exploration, reframing space as a new frontier for international collaboration. Emphasizing inclusivity, GSFK encourages both space-faring and non-space-faring countries to leverage space data and technology for sustainable development, addressing challenges on Earth.

3. Urban & Rural Development:

How do we live and grow in harmony with our planet?

GSFK aims to develop Thiruvananthapuram as a green city, a model for sustainable, human-centric cities. Shifting from building over nature to building with it, GSFK promotes connectivity, mobility, and equal access to services, respecting local knowledge for inclusive urban and rural spaces.

4. Knowledge & Learning:

How do we harness and challenge our knowledge today for the future?

GSFK advocates for accessible knowledge and learning, bridging gaps for marginalized communities. Fostering practical learning methodologies, GSFK emphasizes critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and preserving heritage to secure a prosperous future, recognizing education as a basic human right.

5. Health & Wellness:

How do we create a healthier and happier world?

GSFK, complying with international health protocols, prioritizes safety, well-being, and pandemic preparedness. Recognizing the interconnectedness of human, animal, and planetary health, GSFK invests in frontline workers, ensuring high-quality healthcare for all through inter-sectoral collaboration.

6. Food, Agriculture & Livelihoods:

How do we sustainably grow food to meet future demand?

GSFK addresses the impact of the food value chain on climate change. Providing a platform for showcasing gastronomic traditions, GSFK emphasizes good food as a basic human right, fair remuneration for smallholder farmers, and environmentally conscious consumption for a sustainable global food system.

7. Water:

How do we protect our most precious resource today, for tomorrow?

GSFK advocates for responsible water management, recognizing water as the foundation of all life. Encouraging a shift from extraction to responsibility, GSFK emphasizes the need for robust international collaborations to build a sustainable blue economy, ensuring equitable access to water for all.

Dear People and Planet, GSFK is starting a big mission to create a movement that lasts a lifetime. Now, it’s handed over to the millions who will see it and get inspired to take care of the future. GSFK promises to work on these important things as our way of contributing to making the world better and fair for everyone.

Yours,

Team GSFK
